Max Schanzenbach Seigle Family Professor of Law at Northwestern Pritzker School of Law

Max M. Schanzenbach is the Seigle Family Professor of Law at Northwestern Pritzker School of Law and is a non-exclusive Peregrine Affiliate. On the Pritzker Law School faculty since 2003, Professor Schanzenbach has also served as the Director of the Searle Center on Law, Regulation, and Economic Growth at Northwestern University. He was previously editor-in-chief of the American Law and Economics Review, the journal of the American Law and Economics Association.

Professor Schanzenbach’s research is in the law and economics tradition with an empirical focus. He has published work in peer-reviewed economics journals and law reviews, including those of Yale, Stanford, and the University of Chicago.  His substantive areas include fiduciary investment, fiduciary practice in personal trusts and ERISA, statistical evidence of discrimination, and police misconduct. He has testified and authored expert reports in each of these areas.

Professor Schanzenbach has held visiting faculty appointments at Harvard Law School and has served on the board of the American Law and Economics Association. He received his BA from the University of Oklahoma, and his JD and PhD (economics) degrees from Yale University.
